This fits in rather well with the discussion of how we honor and love our pets. Vet Wisdom Cafe has donated a Clay Paws Holiday Gift Kit for one lucky winner. To win, simply comment below and tell me about your heart pet.
All About ClayPaws® Prints
You’ve probably seen paw prints of animals made in clay. Did you ever wonder how to make one for yourself? Well, that’s what ClayPaws® kits are for!
Each kit includes just enough specially formulated clay to make a print of almost any pet. Many times, people use these kits if their pet is very ill or dying, or if they have to euthanize an animal. A paw print in clay is a lasting memory of a beloved animal. ClayPaws® prints are also great to make a memory of a puppy or a kitten.

To make a print, all it takes is a little time, patience, and creativity.

From random.org, comment number 7 wins! Don’t worry, there is one more chance to win coming up later!!
Deb Mendez has been a supporter since the early days of the blog. Her all natural calming collar was clicked on Koa for the first 3 months she lived with us. Hers was a lower level anxiety, fortunately, and when she was wearing the collar at work she would quietly slip under a desk and snooze.

Anxiety is a big problem in dogs, and like many things, there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Thundershirts, behavior modification exercises, and medications are also different ways people approach this issue. The more severe the anxiety, the more stuff you have to try.
Would you like to try one? (She also has motion sickness and cooling collars.) Leave a comment below saying what you would like to try and who it is for.
Update from Deb: I’ll make a $5 donation to “the puppy for Bradyn” for each Calming Collar purchase this month that mentions Dr. V or Pawcurious or even Blogathon2010 (there is a “how we heard about you” box in checkout).

I want a Boston terrier. There is a Boston terrier available for rescue at my favorite local rescue. That never happens (it’s a retriever rescue).
My husband thinks it’s a terrible idea (for the record, he said the same about Koa.) I am sure this dog won’t be available for very long, so I have a very short window of time to convince him that we should at least meet her and see if she is a good fit. Did you see her face? Her FACE?? *squish*
I need your help to convince him. My argument is “You don’t need to do anything for the dogs anyway” and “I need comfort after the whole telethon thing.”
Give your best argument for why he should consider having us adopt one more dog- just one!- and I will pick my favorite for a custom Fetching Tag.

*The Fetching Tag goes to Kim for invoking not only size-ist remarks but remembering my guilt over Skippy. Julia came in a close second with the baby remark, though- that is an EXCELLENT argument.

Congratulations to the winner, Melanie!
If you didn’t see my Sunday post, I’m trying to post daily reader pics of pets in costumes from now until Halloween. If you haven’t uploaded yours yet, I have a group over at Flickr (non-Halloween pictures are welcome too!)
That is also where I will have participants upload their pictures for the 12 Days of Petmas, which I will be doing again this year because it was so much fun last time around.
If you don’t have a costume for your pet, there’s still time! We got ours set and photographed this weekend. They turned out pretty hysterical, though it took us almost an entire bag of treats to bribe them to hold still for the shoot.
You could perhaps have your dog be a Spicy Taco.

It’s about time for a giveaway, don’t you think? And I’m so excited to have this one for you all. It’s the start of autumn, so what better way to usher it in than freshening up your pet’s fall collar couture?
Sirius Republic is an e-tailer specializing in handmade collars and leashes. They have a wide selection of buckle and Martingale collars, which are fast becoming one of my favorite types of collar for our resident wild man.
Martingale collars, if you are unfamiliar with them, tighten up when pulled but are looser at rest, providing an extra measure of security for the type of dog who easily pulls out of a standard collar in moments of zeal or other types of enthusiasm.
Owner Jennifer Zhang makes all the collars and leashes by hand. When she offered a sample to review, I told her I wanted to try a quick-release Martingale but I wasn’t sure which width would be best for Brody. She sent me a wide 1 1/2″ as well as a 1″ but suggested the 1″ would probably be best for Brody. She was correct. Just one of the many reasons I like working with and promoting small business owners!
Here we have a festive mushroom style modeled by our own in-house autumn himself:

The collars themselves are very sturdy and professionally finished. I am an admitted collar snob so I try to steer away from the dull, the mass-produced, and the flimsy. This is none of these things.

Sirius Republic also offers a unique New Collars for Life Guarantee. Anyone with a dog knows collars have a shelf life just due to living on a hairy dog neck, so for a company to offer a free replacement after two years is pretty impressive.
I’m already eyeing some of the other styles in stock- I mean, Koa kind of needs this one, don’t ya think? Roawr!
But enough about me- it’s your turn to get your hands on one! You have two ways to enter the giveaway for a collar from Sirius Republic:
1. Go to the website, peruse the collection, and leave a comment below saying which collar you would like to have.
2. Become a Facebook fan here. You need to comment on this blog post telling me you did that so I can make sure you get your extra entry!
Entries close Saturday, September 11th, at midnight PST, right about the time shenanigans at BlogPaws will be wrapping up.

I had NO idea I had so many knowledgeable chicken experts reading this blog. Truly, thank you for the encouragement and all the fantastic links. I have my work cut out for me. I even found out my receptionist is on a similar chicken kick and she pointed me to a place that is selling 8 month old laying hens. Score!
There are all sorts of things that put me in a good mood this week. I put new tags on everyone’s collars, and they are seriously, seriously cute tags. Since people tend to frown on dressing up 80 pound dogs in cute outfits, I have to rely on accessories for the cute factor, so there you go.
The lovely Jen Cleere from Fetching Tags offered to send me my very own set of tags for the menagerie, and as soon as I saw how adorable they were I said, “Yes, please!”
