And here’s a big, ol’ virtually belly rub for you, sweetheart!
Dr. V, I have a question. You mentioned that you rotate foods every so often. Do I need to do the “slowly mix the new food with the new food” thing or can I just go for it? My dogs don’t have any particular issues. Also, can I give my cats different flavors of canned or should I just get them the same flavor every time? I don’t what any pet boredom, but I also don’t want a giant Poo Party because I decided to get fancy with the grub.
(Yes, I’m switching them to a premium diet (Natural Balance) because of your article.)
Yaaay for the switch! 🙂
We always advise go gradual, but it truly depends on the pet. Cats are notoriously picky and I know some owners have to transition over weeks to months to get their cats to accept something new! And then there is the old diarrhea issue that can pop up.
In my case, both my cats and dogs readily take new foods with no problem, so I’m pretty lucky. If they are fine with it, there’s no reason you have to change gradually. I used to switch my cats’ food flavors around, but with Apollo’s food allergies I am pretty limited. I always switched the dog foods around; I’m not sure how much ‘boredom’ comes into play, but they enjoyed it.
