I love different things every week. This applies to pet items, favorite shoes, and what website I’m going to waste time on after work. This week it’s utilitarian stuff that appeals to me, things I have been reaching for every day this week and are quickly becoming indispensable. Perhaps you enjoy these items as well.
1. A yoga mat. Aside from having a way to catch a quick downward dog when needed, yoga mats are actually a big help to have in the clinic. I often look apologetically at a scrabbling chihuahua sliding around on our stainless steel tables or a cat sitting nervously on the cool edge. It’s not the easiest thing to keep in a clinic for regular use, but this- or a shower mat- is a great thing for owners to bring in for use with their own pets. It helps traction, makes them feel more comfortable, and is an all around great thing to have. Namaste.
2. I don’t endorse any one particular food- as I’ve said previously, there are tons of foods out there and it’s important to try different ones out. That being said, this week I am loving The Honest Kitchen‘s Thrive- a dehydrated all life stages food. It’s really easy to mix up and store, and offers the benefits of hydrated canned food with the convenience of dry. For lazy busy people like me, this is a home run. They have a great website, as well.
3. Kong Zoom Groom- this is a little rubber brush thingy that actually doesn’t look too impressive, kind of like a chew toy with some ribs on it. It doesn’t look like it would work half as well as it does as a brush, but its true genius is in the tub. If you’ve ever tried to get soap into a water repellent fur coat, you know how hard it can be. This little doohickey has become one of my very favorite Brody items.
4. Convenia. I’m not normally one to randomly push a particular drug, but you have to trust me on this one, Convenia is AWESOME. It is an injectable antibiotic that lasts over a week- potentially even up to two. It’s not effective for all infections, so listen to your vet’s guidance on antibiotic selection, but if your pet has an infection responsive to this class of antibiotics, life has become a lot easier. Take, for example, our friends from Monday and Tuesday’s posts- ever tried to dose an unhappy cat 2 times a day with liquid antibiotics? It stinks. I go through this medication very quickly and it’s gotten very positive feedback. It usually costs a little more than the oral meds, but it’s ohhhh so worth it!

I agree, it was brilliant.

I have a similar brush to the Zoom Groom that I use on my cat (not during bathing). The small rubber ‘bristles’ of this brush are SOooo good for his slick siamese-y fur. So much better than any other brush I’ve found. I’d recommend the Zoom Groom for dry brushing as well!

I was wondering how those would work on thick Goldie fur. I guess I will find out…the cat loves it, though.

oooh must get a Zoom Groom for Cookie’s baths which lead to me getting a bath rather than her.
