Things to smile about: Fetching Tags

March 25, 2010 by Dr. V

I had NO idea I had so many knowledgeable chicken experts reading this blog. Truly, thank you for the encouragement and all the fantastic links. I have my work cut out for me. I even found out my receptionist is on a similar chicken kick and she pointed me to a place that is selling 8 month old laying hens. Score!

There are all sorts of things that put me in a good mood this week. I put new tags on everyone’s collars, and they are seriously, seriously cute tags. Since people tend to frown on dressing up 80 pound dogs in cute outfits, I have to rely on accessories for the cute factor, so there you go.

The lovely Jen Cleere from Fetching Tags offered to send me my very own set of tags for the menagerie, and as soon as I saw how adorable they were I said, “Yes, please!”

I mean, how can you not think those are stinkin cute. The real ones have readable phone numbers, but I read that it’s a bad idea to put your phone number out on the net so I blurred them out. I’m more of an e-mail person anyway.

I told Jen to put whatever she wanted on the other side.

She sure did her homework! That is them in a nutshell. But look at what she put on a second set:

I’m dying here. Best tags ever.

I’m kind of lazy so most of my tags in the past were those I got at the pet store, the cheapie ones who were chipped enough in a year that they were impossible to read without a penlight and some imagination. These tags are bigger, solid, and tough- Brody’s been going gangbusters at daycare and his tag still looks brand new.

Fetching Tags supports rescue organizations, makes one-of-a-kind unique pieces, and is a small business (my favorite kind), so I’m happy to give them our pawcurious seal of approval! I’m thinking of getting one for my stethoscope that says “PAWS OFF”. LOL!

My Smooch has one of these…the back of hers says “Ranch Security.” Makes her feel quite superior.

Love them! Now just have to think up something clever to put on mine. 🙂 Question…do you keep a tag on Apollo? Do most people keep tags on their cats? My cat, Alley, loves to sleep on the furnace vents, and twice she has gotten her tag stuck in the vent and pulled off her breakaway collar (leaving it stuck in the vent). This happens when I’m not home, of course, but I imagine it’s pretty stressful for her. I gave up and took her tag off so there’s nothing dangling to get caught in the vent. She’s chipped, and she never goes outside, but I’d still love to keep a tag on her. She’s a girl, and girls need jewelry! I guess I wonder how quickly the breakaway collars “break away” and how stressful it is to be momentarily (?) stuck.

Apollo’s collars wind up lost within 12 hours, every time. The breakaway was consistent and easy for them to pull off (in my experience). I gave up. He did wear a non-breakaway collar for awhile and I had our phone number embroidered on the collar, but he never goes outside.

    Ah. Dor. A. Ble.
Now, onto the chicken post. Holy feathers! That was a lot of chicken discussion. I, too, was introduced the concept of pet chickens by Dr. Janet. I also realized that once one becomes aware that one can HAVE a pet chicken, one starts discovering that there are chicken lovers everywhere!

I am not getting one…yet. Romeo and Pugsley would be frightened to bejesus. But maybe someday.

I’ve been thinking of getting Pru an additional ID tag to go along with her blanketID.. I was thinking Red Dingo but I have completely changed my mind. These are just too cute to boot. I may have to get one for myself 😉 That’s not weird right?

You have this mysterious power to push me toward purchases. I just bought one of these for Chewy, her tagline is Exorbitantly Affectionate. 😀
