Top 10 Pawcurious Posts for 2010

December 30, 2010 by Dr. V

With only one day left in the year, it’s time to dust off the old archives and pull out my favorite posts from the last 12 months. These represent the best, or just the most fun, of what we do here. šŸ™‚ So without further ado and in no particular order, here are my choices for the Top 10 Posts of the Year:

There’s One in Every Office: A Pet Doctor Barbie Post

It’s not that often I make myself laugh out loud with my own posts, but something about the Wicked Witch shoving the broom in the Barbie’s face makes me lose it every time. Probably because I remember experiencing the real-life person all too well. Pet Doctor Barbie is my all time favorite category here. I need to make a New Year’s Resolution to do more of them in 2011.

Angry Dr. Nessa

The Concert of the Year

I planned for Koa to be Lady Gaga for two months leading up to Halloween. Initially I was going to go for the studded bikini outfit, but when Gaga showed up in a flank steak dress I knew I had my outfit. Brody was a toss up right until the last minute- I couldn’t decide between Bret Michaels or Justin Bieber. I think I made the right decision.

Little Earthquakes

2010 hasn’t exactly been the best year for my family. I lost both of my grandmothers, two women who were so fundamental to who I am. I miss them every day. This is my tribute to my maternal grandmother, Mary.

Rules of Engagement

At BlogPaws West in September, I was plucked out of the audience at random by Mike Arms to read a terrible, tear jerking letter from a shelter worker about the awful reality of his job.Ā  I can’t say I relished the actual snivelling job I did up on the podium, but it gave me the chance to meet with Mike, take a tour of the Helen Woodward Animal Center afterwards, and get energized about the chance to use blogging and social media to make a real difference in the coming years.

The Usual Suspects

It’s not perhaps my finest post, but it’s one of my favorites because this- this is the essence of Brody and his antics. Fortunately the half-eaten carcass never appeared again after that day.

Baking with Brody: Frosty Paws

In 2010 I introduced the Pawcurean and the Baking with Brody segments. Of all the involved recipes I came up with, by far the most popular was this Frosty Paws-type recipe I got from Linda at the 7MSN Ranch.

Tumbleweeds

On the one year anniversary of Emmett’s passing, I invited people to send in pictures of their departed pets for a tribute to all the creatures we are still missing with all our hearts.

Iron Chef Pawcurious

The annual Blogathon stunt this year involved a bag of World’s Best Cat Litter, olive oil, and a banana. Chaos ensues.

Real Tails from the Vet Clinic

Like everyone and their mom, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to jump on the Xtranormal bandwagon and make a video about life in the clinic. My conversation with a client about her vomiting dog lives on in clinic legend and lore to this day.

Rescue Stories

Of course any retrospective about the year has to contain mention of our newest addition to the family, the sweet and gentle Koa. I introduced her to the blog with the help of Pet Doctor Barbie.

It’s a Wonderfur Life

OK, so my Top 10 is really a Top 11. I couldn’t help it. It’s not the most highly rated entry, not even in the top 20, but “It’s a Wonderfur Life” may very well be my sentimental favorite for post of the year.

Did I miss one? Let me know in the comments. Better yet, for all of you with blogs, share your own favorites from the year on your own blog and post the link below! We can do a Best Of Blog Hop!

As much as I loved all of these, I had forgotten It’s a Wonderfur Life. Good timing, too — I have been thinking about Bailey a lot during the holidays! Good tears this morning, once again. And I will always miss her and, to be blunt, screw anybody who tells me I need to “get over it.” Mommy loves you always and forever, baby girl.

Thanks once again for all you do, Dr. V! I hope you have a wonderful New Year and that 2011 brings you lots of joy.

I agree with you on hitting the nail on the head with Brody as Bret Michaels! Perfect! I have so many “favorites” that it’s hard to choose. Of course, I have a soft spot for Koa, so posts about her are high on my list. And I laugh every time I go back and read The Hairy Hambone. I love the picture caption with Brody saying, “I don’t like that!”
Happy New Year to you and yours, Dr. V! Can’t wait to see what Pawcurious brings to 2011!

I LOVE the Hairy Hambone. I thought I was the only one. Thank you for remembering it, it’s my baby. LOL. I had so much fun with it.

I agree that all these posts should have made top 10(11). I think Lisa should get “commenter most likely to be Sherlock Holmes” for spotting the Dr Barbie boots at Koa’s adoption announcement!

Great list! I love the Pet Doctor Barbie, and It’s a Wonderfur Life is positively wonderfur!

Tried to comment on some of the old posts, but for some reason it won’t let me… so this is an all-inclusive comment. Great year! Great posts! šŸ™‚

How did I miss “It’s a Wonderfur Life” the first time around. Wonderfully done. “Rescue Stories” is probably my top favorite. The figurines, the story arc, the suspense, Pet Doctor Barbie cameo, it’s fabulous.
BTW, did you know that there’s a Pet Doctor Barbie book? You may be minimally relieved that Barbie just assists the vet, but she’s got the coat!

Looking forward to more great posts in 2011

Someone bought that for my daughter, and I had a moment of horror thinking Barbie would just throw on a coat and start treating pets. *whew*

Re-reading these posts makes me realize why I love your blog sooo much – I laugh, giggle, cry and end up happier for reading this little slice of heaven on the internet. THanks so much Dr. V for all your hard work to produce such a fabulous blog. My favorites are a toss up between the Real Tales movies, Pet Doctor Barbie, and Brody’s arrest and subsequent “No Lick Lockdown” Happy New Year!!

I almost forgot the Usual Suspects, and it’s one of my favorite posts. So very Brody.

I hadn’t seen that Xtranormal video until now and I can’t stop laughing. Seriously! I know it’s really not funny and I hope his dog is okay now – maybe even living somewhere else – and yet the combination of the weird voices and the ridiculousness of the entire situation… Bwahahahahahah *wipes tears*

“I am going to go home and give him some queso fresco”

    Hahahahahaha!

    Poor doggy.

It was horrifying at the time. Sometimes all you can do is laugh at the absurdity (so we do.)
