I had about 4 hours to kill at the Dayton airport yesterday, which I had planned to spend writing a post for today. Unfortunately about 2 seconds after the shuttle dropped us off I realized that in my reverie I left my laptop on the bus. Then Chad, one of the fantastic Paine PR team members, realized his Blackberry was also on the shuttle.
Susi, my fellow blogger over at KnobNotes who did not leave anything on the shuttle, was kind enough to capture this dramatic footage of us bemoaning our stupidity. I actually thought it was really kind of Chad to leave something behind just so I wouldn’t feel so alone in doing so.
Anyway, kudos to the entire Iams/Eukanuba team, of whom I believe every single member got a panicked text and/or phone message trying to track down the shuttle driver, who then gamely got back on the freeway in rush hour traffic to deliver the abandoned goods. I owe Dennis the driver a fruit basket for that one and the entire Iams team a standing ovation for tracking him down.
So needless to say, sometimes things like 4 hour waits at the airport happen for a reason.
THEN, with computer stapled to my body, I got into Chicago and boarded my connection, only to have the pilot get on and say, “…..zzzz….er, hi folks, seems we have a big old problem here…..one of our maintenance crew found some damage to the plane…..he found a crack, actually…..so this plane is out of service.”
No one likes to hear their plane has a crack in it, but really, the only thing worse than finding out your plane has a crack while sitting on the tarmac is finding out your plane has a crack while flying at 35,000 feet, so I was relieved they found it. But that was another 2 hour delay. I then couldn’t write a post on the plane because I was too busy looking for cracks the whole way home.
I got in at 1 am PST, after getting up at 7 am EST. Which translates into 21 hour day if my math is correct.
So anyway, this is why I have a late post today, but I hope you agree I have a good explanation. π

Yikes! I’m glad they found it BEFORE you took off! I do have a good visual of you looking for cracks all the way home. π You deserve a nice, long nap!

Cracks in a plane are never good. Yikes!!! Glad you made it home safe and sound π
Tammy says
Wow! Travel delays are never fun, and they are always exhausting! Get some rest π

Yeah. That was quite the message you left on my office phone. And my cell phone. And my email. And my IM. And my personal Twitter account. And the Iams Twitter account. OK, so maybe I’m exaggerating just a little bit. (-;
I’m so glad that we (namely Jen) were able to track down Dennis and reunite you and Chad with your electronics! And I so glad you got home with no cracks at 35,000 feet!

If I had all those numbers I would have called them. π

I’m also glad we got our precious technology devices back before our flight – and that Flat Eli made the post (he’s thrilled)!
Dr. V says
Me too! I’m so glad I had company while we waited! π

Oh man, what a rough time…geez I thought I had it bad on the way in with my 40-minute trip turned into 3-hour nightmare… You win! KUDOS to the driver — def send a fruit basket π

I don’t know which would be worse: the laptop, the cell phone or the crack on the plane. I don’t think I could go without my cell π
Kim says
That picture is awesome π
Paris says
Yikes, that’s terrible!! So glad you found your laptop and that at least that the crack was discovered *before* you were in the air. I hate it when the pilot makes an announcement before the flight and you know it’s going to be bad news…it’s just a matter of how bad…

This photo is priceless! It must have even MORE painful than when my computer was water damaged in Peru. I sympathize with you, my friend! π

Is it like some weird curse? Did we steal an idol in Peru or something?

Wow sounds like you all had quite a crazy time after we left behind the paw!
