There are few things I like to do to unwind more than read a good book. When I was growing up, that was my family’s weekend pasttime of choice, my father with his Louis L’Amour, my mother with a biography, and me, sprawled sideways on the overstuffed chair with an Isaac Asimov. I told you I was a nerd. That’s a good thing, though- it kept me out of trouble (mostly) for a long time.
Reading is inherently relaxing and stimulating all at once, lacking the passivity of TV or the computer. I wish I had more time to do it now.
Which is why I am happy to have a Giveaway Tuesday offering that appeals to the bibliophilie in me: Not one, but FIVE copies up for grabs of The Dog Who Knew Too Much by Spencer Quinn of chetthedogcom.
Here is the official publisher synopsis:
The fourth entry in the irresistible New York Times bestselling mystery series featuring canine narrator Chet and his human companion Bernie—”the coolest human/pooch duo this side of Wallace and Gromit” (Kirkus Reviews).
Combining suspense and intrigue with a wonderfully humorous take on the link between man and beast, Spencer Quinn’s exceptional mystery series has captured widespread praise since its New York Times bestselling debut, Dog on It. The Dog Who Knew Too Much marks the duo’s triumphant return in a tale that’s full of surprises.
Bernie is invited to give the keynote speech at the Great Western Private Eye Convention, but it’s Chet that the bigshot P.I. in charge has secret plans for. Meanwhile Chet and Bernie are hired to find a kid who has gone missing from a wilderness camp in the high country. The boy’s mother thinks the boy’s father—her ex—has snatched the boy, but Chet makes a find that sends the case in a new and dangerous direction. As if that weren’t enough, matters get complicated at home when a stray puppy that looks suspiciously like Chet shows up. Affairs of the heart collide with a job that’s never been tougher, requiring our two intrepid sleuths to depend on each other as never before. The Dog Who Knew Too Much is classic Spencer Quinn, offering page-turning entertainment that’s not just for dog-lovers.
I’m the first to tell you, I haven’t read the book yet, but we can enjoy it together and you can let me know what you think. Who wouldn’t love a little fun reading material to curl up with as the weather starts to chase us inside? If you’d like to enter, here’s how:

My favorite book is Lad: A Dog 🙂 I had a copy that belonged to my mother when I was a child. It was missing its cover, the threads that held the folios together were loose and many broken. Still, I read it again and again from the time I was 8 until I was about 18.

WOW tough choice. I read the Source by Michener many many years ago & love it enough to reread it several times. I like most of his books both because they are great reads and they are nice & long. Dont you hate it when a book is finished?? Recently read a biography of Paul Newman that I enjoyed. Now reading a historical fiction called Conquistadors, and while I am enjoying it I wouldnt put it on my top 10 list.

Jack the Bodiless by Julian May, worth the read if you love Isaac Asimov Dr V.

rita mae and sneaky pie (her cat) brown have a pretty good mystery series going. i’m not usually into animals that talk, but they only talk to each other and i can so picture my dogs and cats saying those things to each other. so if you like animals and mysteries, give them a try. i like the early ones, when they still worked at the post office the best. oh, and there’s some fox hunting involved, too.
Diana says
Have fun on your trip!! I can’t pick just one book, but the ones that I keep going back to again and again are To Kill a Mockingbird, The Sex Lives of Cannibals (by J Maarten Troost) and Me Talk Pretty One Day (or anything by David Sedaris).
