Sometimes, when my husband is in a state of deep REM sleep, I’ll lean over and whisper, “Boston terrier….so cute….so fun….” I keep hoping that over time this subliminal advertising will take and he’ll wake up, stretch, and say, “You know what? I think we should get a Boston terrier.” It hasn’t happened yet, but hope springs eternal.
The Pets Add Life campaign from the American Pet Products Association is aimed at people like us, who are itching for an excuse to add another pet to our lives because it’s more fun for everyone that way. Pets like having buddies as much as we do. The PAL campaign just put out three awesome pet banter videos- a cat, a dog, and a lizard one. Believe it or not, my favorite one was the lizard banter video, though the Dog ButtsΒ one comes in a close second:
Maybe I should be whispering “bearded dragon….so loveable…” instead.
So what say you? Are you at a full house or could you use another animal?
This post is sponsored by the Pets Add Life campaign and the American Pet Products Association. I am being compensated for helping spread the word about the benefits and joys of pet ownership.Β

Awesome clips! π And did I spy you in a Boston terrier shirt on your trip? I could see ears sticking up on your shirt, but I never could really make out what it was.
I would LOVE to have a friend (or five) for Clyde, but he’s one of those “only” dogs who is more comfortable without a friend. He will tolerate other dogs if they don’t invade his bubble, but he doesn’t really enjoy them. I wish I knew what did (or didn’t) happen in his life before me to make him that way. And Alley, my cat, lived with another cat before she was given up for adoption, but now she will not tolerate another cat coming close to her house. I think she enjoys being the princess of the house!

3 big dogs is our limit. Sort of. I’m working on the Hubster to let us start fostering again. I mean, what’s the real difference between 3 and 4???
Dr. V says
Right? 3, 4, 6…all the same. π

I just added a Poicephalus parrot, so we’re full up for a while. With two elderly kitties – one with less than a year left, most likely – we’ll revisit the proper ratio of pets to room & budget in a year or so. It’s nice to have a new friend to take the sadness out of losing old friends π And it will be nice to have a connection between all when the old friends have passed on. They will be remembered and loved still.
Dr. V says
You got a parrot? Awesome!

After Bailey passed away, we got Oscar because Sophie was very attached to Bailey and was more of a “dog dog” than a “people dog.” Our neighborhood only allows two, which is probably good or Oscar wouldn’t have been the only pup who came home with me. We’re planning to move out into the country onto more land, and when that happens I’ll have more because I’ll be able to start the sanctuary (and I won’t have to shell out $$$ for doggy day care)!
Dr. V says
I can’t wait for your sanctuary. I’m emotionally invested in it now. π

Ok, so the lizard one is cute, but the exotics vet in me is screaming “You should never put a Jackson’s Chameleon in with a leopard gecko! They are from TOTALLY different environments and have different husbandry requirements! One needs UV light while the other does not! One needs high humidity while the other does not! Plus the fact that they are kinda condoning hot rocks, which are evil things.”
It is funny. Wrong on so many husbandry levels, but funny.
Abby's Mom says
I’m glad I’m not the only one who was worried by the allusion to the hot rock.
Dr. V says
I was wondering when I was watching it if there were some technical inaccuracies. I’m hoping that if anyone is inspired by the video they will then take the next logical step to, you know, research. LOL
So what’s the deal with hot rocks? Inquiring minds want to know.

I think we could do with one more kitty (making it two), but my husband is less convinced. At the moment, he has the upper hand as we can’t really afford to have a second one on one income. But if his current attempts to find paid work eventually pay off (pun intended) the debate shall be thrown open once again π
Dr. V says
It will be worth the wait! π

Hilarious videos. I watched all three.

Before we transferred residences, I was mom to 2 Labs, a Bullmastiff, 4 doberman pinschers, 3 mutts, and a cat that we picked by the roadside. It was really no big deal. They were one big happy family except for the male Lab and Bullmastiff who never see each other eye to eye and had to be placed as far from each other as possible.
There was really no regulation against keeping many dogs. As long as you know your responsibilities and you have the means to give them a house and sufficient food, you will be rewarded with a lifetime of unconditional love and friendship.

Oh boy, the PAL campaign is working its magic on me. We’ve been talking about adopting another Boston Terrier so our current one, Hamlet, has a friend and this might have pushed me over the edge. I LOVE the Dog Butts video. Thanks for sharing.
