Sommer came with the name from the hoarders/”rescuers” (they went to local shelters and took the ones that were older – while admirable, their living conditions were scary). C was responsible for Nala’s name and at the time one of the billion “limited edition” Lion King box sets came out.

okay pawcurions, if 100 of us give just $20 then we can make this goal for Dr. V. She stayed up all night and drove around in a monsoon in almost-freezing temps dodging zombies for these magnificent cats!!! That’s four lattes, one night at the movies if you go alone and ignore the concessions, 2 martinis, or one pair of pajama jeans!!! We can do it!!!!

My sister came up with our youngest cat’s name. She was named Gremlin when we picked her up from the Humane Society, but we didn’t care much for that name. My sister said we should her Josephine but call her Jojo and she’d call her “Mojo Jojo” (from the PowerPuff Girls) because of her mischievous nature. The kitten took to answering to Jojo right away (and totally ignores you if you say Josephine)

I had plans to name him Albert after my alma mater’s mascot. But when I met him, he just didn’t seem like an Albert and the name Moe just came to me. Not that he answers to it –he doesn’t answer to anything or anyone but himself!

Today is my Ally-bob’s 14th birthday. Well actually I found this little black cat 13 yrs ago, just after midnight on Friday Nov 13th. My vet said she was about 1yr old at the time, so today we celebrate her 14th birthday. When I found her (well she really found me!) she was fixed, front declawed and had a little tiny tail, about 3 inches long, coming to a point, that my vet said had to have been surgically done, so her tail must have been injured at some point as a kitten. Everyone agrees that her little pointy tail makes her seem much more sassy. I suppose her name should have been Sassy-bob but that didn’t sound right. We threw out the Sassy, but kept the bob and she became Ally-bob. Though Sasmo is one of her nicknames.

My cat was part of a small feral colony nearby. While I was not the caretaker for this little group, I was drawn to it like a magnet and would drop by every night to give the cats canned food, check for newcomers, and leave supplies for the caretaker.
For months I would sit in the background and “talk” back and forth with a large female brown tabby. Rather than call her “Cat”, I decided that she needed a name, and began calling her Annabelle, a fitting name for a large regal looking brown tabby. After some time, she began to come out of hiding when I called her name.
Late one night while I was at the colony to pick up a kitten that found its way to the food supply, Annabelle surprised me by coming right up to me. I noticed that her ear was bleeding, so without thinking about the consequences or how she would react, I quickly shuffled all 17 lbs of her into the carrier and shut the door.
Once home, I set up the laundry room for Annabelle, and was pleasantly surprised at how relaxed she became in the room. The next day I put a comfy chair in the room so that I could spend time with her, and we headed to the Vet to see about that ear. At the Vet we learned that Annabelle had a bad ear infection (knew that), was FIV+, and was a BOY! As it turned out, there WAS a large female brown tabby at the colony, but all this time I had been “chatting” with her brother! Clearly I didn’t bother to “check the equipment” once home.
I treated Annabelle’s infection in the laundry room, and found myself spending more and more time with him. Near the end of his treatment it was clear that I was completely smitten, and he was here to stay. I already had 2 adopted FIV+ boys, so it was if it was meant to be.
A girl’s name for a boy, though? I didn’t want to completely change the name that he had just learned, so I transitioned Annabelle to Andybelle. Easy! 🙂
This was over 6 years ago, and my gentle cuddly giant is the feline love of my life!

My cat Merlin got his name because he magically convinced me to adopt him. After fostering over 50 cats before him, with no intentions of adopting any of them, it took some real magic for him to convince me within a matter of just a week that he was my forever heart cat and I had to adopt him.

Anis – She was a very bitey kitten when we got her. Walking by her or just standing innocently nearby, you could at any moment be jumped on, all four paws with claws splayed and teeth to follow. Had just finished reading a story where the vampire queen was named Anis and it seemed fitting.
Cielo – Cielo is Spanish for Sky, he has beautiful blue eyes and a greyish cream coat with stripes and little white socks.
Whisper – My husband wanted to name one of our animals for once, I’m not sure why he chose the name other than its a pretty name.
Mary – Came with her name, her brothers were Peter and Paul. She was having multiple seizures every day at the rescue I was was working with, our doctors were trying different medications, different dosages, but nothing was being particularly effective. I asked if I could take her to my house from the shelter and continue to medicate there, if we couldn’t get her sorted out, I wanted her to at least have the chance to experience a loving home. Once at my house, the seizures slowed down considerably, she didn’t have any for a month and then rarely after that. After a few months I didn’t want to let her go, and after knowing her as Mary since she was brought to us I didn’t feel right calling her anything else. 🙂

My first kitty’s name is Kleio, which is one of the 9 muses in Greek mythology. I named her that because my exboyfriend wanted to name her Cleo, like thousands of other cats out there, and all my babies are unique and should have very unique names. And also Kleio has the same letters a my name, Leiko. My second kitty’s name is Kalypso, sticking to the Greek theme it means hidden. We found her in the walls of a warehouse where a friend of mine worked when she was about 5 weeks old. But she as yet to grow out of her name, she hides all the time, even from the camera so most people don’t believe I have two cats.

My old mancat is named Din as in the din of a kitchen. When he first let us know of is bring around our condo unit was all this mewing, and mewing, we finally were able to catch him all 1 lb of him, barely 4 weeks old, found out later that his original owners were evicted and threw out all the babies mommy cat had and took her and not babies. He and one other found forever homes of 4 that were thrown out. Our baby girl is Fionna Grace don’t really know why I named her that except I liked the name and it seems to fit her.

My youngest kitty’s name is Mia. She was found outside of a store at 10 days old, and I took her in and bottlefed her. She’s a grey tabby with an M on her head, so she had to have an M name…we got it down to Molly or Mia, but went with Mia since it sounds so much like MEOW! 🙂 She’s a year old now.

Minion got her name because she was so shy when I first met her and followed her siblings around like a little minion. I got her home and she turned in to a bossy cat, so it turned out that I’m the real minion.
Boffin is English slang for “scientist” and it just seemed to fit. she’s the cat that likes to knock things off shelves just to watch what happens (and how we react). she’s also just a teensy bit mad.
Hermes is named after the Greek messenger of the gods because when we first got him he just ran and ran and ran for about 2 hours, just because he was so happy to be out of the cage.
Mana is named after “mana”, the life energy or magic in all things.

My kitten Bruin got her name because she was all black and we got her during this year’s Stanley Cup playoffs, and of course we are Bruins fans. Funny enough her favorite spot in the house is curled up on our Bruins throw blanket – no other blanket will do!

one of my cats is named squirt. because when my sister found him, he really was just one little squirt that could fit entirely in my hand. (8 years later though he now weighs nearly 16 pounds)! 🙂

I wanted to name my cats The Doctor and Captain Jack. But they were girls, so I decided not to go that route. So, I decided to name them after characters in Greek mythology. Pandora got her name pretty quickly. But I scoured the myths for a name that fit the second cat, and couldn’t find anything that worked. While she was waiting, I called her Kitty #2. A friend made a comment about her being Kitty Beta, and it fit her perfectly. And she still has a Greek name, even if it’s not quite what I had in mind!

Our cat came named. She was a rescue. But Teresa was just too long, so we figured we’d call her Terrie. My sister said, “That’s stupid, I’m calling her Eesa.” And… it stuck. Eight years later, she is 100% Eesa.
Brixton Strummer says
My cat got his name, Brixton Strummer, because my husband is a British punk rock fan. He was traveling on business when the kids and I found Brix so we quickly had to rally social media to find an appropriate name that would make my husband fall in love with Brix by the time he got home. We had been texting video and pictures of Brix but he had not yet been named. So, about 65 suggestions later — many Clash, many Iggy, he ended up being named after the Clash song, Guns of Brixton, with Strummer as a middle name. “Brix” to his friends, including his brother dog Ramone. Brix would love to win some new swag.

Our cat Thumper (yes like the rabbit) got his name because when we brought him home from the shelter, he was scratching his ear and it was making a thump sound on the floor.

Well, I’d give this to my brother who has 3 cats. One of them is Agent Cooper, named after the character on Twin Peaks.

Our cat got her name Sahara after I had initially wanted to call her Sierra but my husband refused and so we compromised. It is a mouthful to shout out though!
