It’s been a while since I’ve done a Pet Doctor Barbie post. It’s past due for a new episode, yes? I think it’s time for Pet Doctor Barbie to meet one of her self-appointed arch nemeses, Pet Food Dude.
Episode 8
Hi Mrs. Sandford, good to see you and Muffin. It’s been a while!
I’m really glad you’re doing housecalls now. I want to get Muffin’s bump looked at again.
OK, I’ll just look at my notes here- 1 cm, top of head…mm hmmm… So where we left it one year ago was that you were going to go talk to your husband and then we were going to aspirate it.
Oh….yes. It’s grown quite a bit since then. We really need –
Yes, I wanted to talk to you about that. I’m a bit upset that you didn’t mention last time how his kibble might have caused this.
We don’t really understand why cancer occurs, Mrs. Sandford. The important thing now is to take care of this mass. I’d hate for you to blame yourself because of your food selection.
I don’t blame myself. I blame you. How much do you make from Big Pet Food anyway?
Actually nothing. But aren’t you feeding a boutique brand anyway? You told me last time you were feeding…let me check…organic grain free non-GMO preservative free all natural Wolf Chunks.
Yes, and you told me to stop and to go back to that one full of corn and despair!
Actually, no, I said Wolf Chunks were fine if that’s what you wanted. But about that mass…
I’ve been using turmeric on the advice of Pet Food Dude. Do you know Pet Food Dude? Can I borrow your computer? This guy knows all your tricks.
Sure, have at it. May I ask what tricks you are referring to?
Vaccines. Pet food. You know. Poison. They are full of free radicals that are overpowering the antioxidants and preventing cellular apoptosis no matter how many carrots I add.
Here’s his site. He knows your medicine is a lie and you’re really just after our money.
I’m going to log on and see what the forums say about your “cancer just happens” line. Oh wait….shoot. My membership is expired. Can you hand me my wallet?
Oh, I think I’ve seen his site. Is he the one who sells supplements and seminars on dog juicing?
Yes! He’s a pioneer. OK, credit card updated, I’m in.
OK, here we go: Have I at any point in the past fed kibble from Big Pet Food or gotten Muffin vaccinated? Yes, 10 years ago. So they say here that this is why he has cancer and it isn’t responding to the turmeric. They also said you would say exactly what you said about it not being their fault, and not to fall for it. What do you have to say to THAT?
Mrs. Sandford, I need to level with you here.
It really doesn’t matter to me what you’re feeding Muffin. I am glad you care about him and want to do what’s best for him. I do too! I promise! I’m having a really hard time talking to you when you’re typing at someone who is convinced I’m out to hurt you both. Right now I am just really worried about the size of this mass on his head. I think we need to get him in for a full evaluation ASAP.
*tap tap* I’ll think about it. I haven’t tried coconut oil yet.
May I ask why you even had me come out?
I just wanted this all on DropCam- see it over there? It’ll be on Pet Food Dude’s YouTube tonight. He’s doing a “Vets Revealed” bit. Well, since you didn’t do anything I’m sure you aren’t expecting payment. You can see yourself out.

Great Pet Dr. Barbie post! Kinda goes along w/ some of the clueless clients featured in your book hee hee

BEST BARBIE EVER!
Lisa W says
OMG, I knew it! Bailey didn’t get a mast cell tumor because she was a 12-year-old Golden mix — it’s all the vet’s fault! Why didn’t I think of that?! Especially since both the surgeon and her regular vet took such great care of her and also called me (with infinite patience) after she died.
I have missed Pet Doctor Barbie so! <3

Yes, all those who scream that pets are sicker than ever are also forgetting that pets are living longer than ever, and as pets age, they *gasp* tend to get sick! Even pets that eat raw organic free-range wolf chunks can get cancer.
I feed my cats a raw diet, but I get so tired of people with paranoid conspiracy theories about vets and Big Pet Food and Fiendish Vaccinators and think you all are out to make pets sick. The trouble is (and having had a beloved family member who is into conspiracy theories, I know this) that these people will never actually listen to research that doesn’t support their beliefs; instead, they’ll call people who don’t believe in their theories “useful idiots” and “sheeple” and go on about their circular logic and deafness to arguments against it.
JaneK says
funny……. except it’s not b/c it’s reality….. this has been one of those “people are stupid” weeks for me…. I’m in people healthcare and work with infants; same people who want to blame everyone else for their pet issues also blame everyone else for their 2 legged kid issues….
look forward to part 2 🙂

Organic grain free nonGMO preservative free all natural wolf chunks!! Hahaha, toy had me at wolf chunks, where can I get some? I assume they contain the appropriate ratio of turmeric to coconut oil though? I laughed but really, I just see so much of this that its not funny at all. Can someone explain to me exactly why some random totally unqualified ‘experts’ on the internet have more credibility with some people than those who have dedicated their lives to pet health and wellness?
JaneA Kelley says
She could just put some burnt motor oil on it! That should solve everything!!!
*sigh*
Lana says
So is Dr. Barbie saying tumeric is useless?
Dr. V says
I think what Pet Doctor Barbie was getting at, if I were a guessing sort of person, is that while turmeric may have its place as part of a holistic health regimen, when you have a clear and present danger such as a mass, turmeric is a complement, not a substitute, for traditional management and people saying that it is are doing pets a terrible disservice.
Lana says
I think I phrased that incorrectly! Oh for sure. Always a compliment, never a substitute for traditional veterinary care.
My sheltie is 12 and started getting the fatty tumors, one of which had to be removed because of its location. The others, my vet said not to worry about and we check/test them with every visit, just in case.
One of them is big, on his inside thigh, and while it was not painful or anything, it was clearly making him uncomfortable.
I spoke to some people who are really into the holistic stuff and all of them said add a small amount of turmeric to the food ? we’ve been doing it for about a month and a half and I swear to you, it is helping. Not drastically but it is noticeable.
I feel like I just talked to so many people and read so much about turmeric and dogs that I thought it was funny that Dr. Barbie called it out.
Dr. V says
There may certainly be something to it- I think as long as it’s not hurting or interfering, why not try it. You’re doing it the right way, of course- using it in ADDITION to medical monitoring. It’s the Belle Gibsons of the world who scare me, the ones who tell people to skip surgery and chemo and end up killing people (and pets) because of it.

Have missed those Dr. Barbies’. Very enlighting post. I have a cat (16) was given 4-6 months to live. He had cancer, had to go to baby food to get him to eat. Nearly 2 years later he is going strong and eats just about anything I give him. Even foods he never ate before. His mass has just about gone. His love of play is back, so don’t tell me it’s his food that he eats. It’s the luck of the draw that pretty much decides our fates. We can delay with medicine, but not always. I hate those pet food dudes they will out and out lie given the chance. They have no vet education so how would they know what is good for the animals. Keep up the good works Dr. V. And I pray for all your family on the death of your Mom.
Dr. V says
<3 Thank you!
Cathey says
Wow! I hadn’t seen a Pet Dr. Barbie in a while and forgot how funny and yet maddening they can be. Waiting for part 2.
Dr. V says
I think she is going to have to interact directly with Pet Food Dude.
Pamela says
It can never hurt going GMO free, feeding your dog a vegan lifestyle BUT at the same time JUST LIKE US, dogs are bio individual in how or what they need in life. So each dog should be treated as an individual, bloggers like myself will share healthy advice, or great recipes to share with your dog BUT you need to make sure these are correct for your and your dog (YES, talk to you vet if you are unsure- your vet will know your dog! And talk to your doctor as your doctor should know you as well!) I have to mention as an animal companion know your animals as much as you can, afterall they are family!…..Before starting any new workouts with your dog check with those mentioned above!

Simply awe-inspiring! I think I’ve found a new format for my blog! 🙂
