Yesterday, Brody and I had our rescheduled surf lesson with Evan the Surf Instructor. It went great. Brody is a natural. His handler, on the other hand, needs a lot of practice. I had no idea how much work it was to push a dog into a wave. I would have had a fuller recap for you by today, but as you may have heard, some doofus in Yuma managed to power down the entire county of San Diego for the day. As we were leaving the beach, I remarked that there sure was a lot of traffic, even for 4 ... Read more »

Hang 20 Part 2: Pool Lessons
With our surf lesson postponed until today, I didn't want to waste this week doing no preparation at all with Brody. So we practiced getting acclimated to the board at home and in the pool. I'm not a surfer myself, so I got on the board to get a feel for the balance involved. It's quite a lot of work. With practice, I'm sure we'll both improve, but in the meantime, I got him to sit on it for a few minutes and that alone is pretty cool. Hope you like Part 2 of Hang 20! ... Read more »
Up in the Air
I always find the end of conferences such a melancholic time. Half the people have left, things are getting broken down, and it's just you and the hum of hotel air conditioning. That is why I ty to leave before the bitter end, so I don't get too despondent. That is what I had planned for BlogPaws. Wraps up Saturday night, and I was going to book it out Sunday morning before I had time to be sad it was over. Well, Irene had other plans, such as winging through DC the very moment I was ... Giveaway Tuesday: Kona’s Chips
Congratulations to our winner, Daisy the Curly Cat! Hope you enjoy!! Welcome back! I hope you all had a good holiday and are feeling nice and rested. To kick off the first official week of pawcurious 2.0, I'm really excited to have a giveaway from Kona's Chips! The company was started in 2007, after the owner's dog Kona became ill after eating dehydrated chicken treats from China. Unfortunately, those kinds of treats have been problematic for lots of pets. Kona's Chips was the ... Read more »

Litter Robot Review
There are litterboxes, and then there are litterboxes. The kind that make you stop in your tracks and say, "Wow. I can't believe I am so impressed by a cat toilet." Since the first time I stood mesmerized watching a Litter Robot in action, I've been coveting one. And because I am lucky, Litter Robot recently sent me one of these mysterious little devices to try out for myself. For such a complicated looking device, it's actually ridiculously easy to put together. Stick the tray in the ... Read more »
Hang 20: Safety First
I am a competitive person. I am the first person to admit this. Although we are doing the Helen Woodward Surf Dog Surf a thon to have fun, there is admittedly some small part of me that is whispering, "But next year we're taking this thing." This year we are just trying to stay on the board for a full set. That being said, I'm not one to turn down a surf lesson, so on Sunday Brody and I headed down to the World's Best Dog Beach (aka Coronado) for our lesson with Evan the Surf Instructor. I ... Have a Question?
Health topic you'd like to hear more about? Wondering what Brody and Koa do all day? Dying to know my favorite fruit? I'll be picking questions to answer in the Ask Dr. V section over here. You can send in your questions via the contact form. Questions will be selected at my discretion. That's Spike from Iams, who is mulling over what he might want to ask. As always, if your pet has an immediate health concern, please see your regular veterinarian. I will answer questions about ... Read more »
Surf’s Up Bro! The Hang 20 Surf Dog Experience Part 1
It's a new day, the sun is shining, and this blog is up and running! YES! I can't think of a happier way to celebrate than to talk about our participation in the upcoming Surf Dog Surf-a-thon on September 11th. As you know, Brody and I have given surfing a shot a couple of times, but it's been very casual. So when Eukanuba asked if we would be interested in being sponsored by them to participate, I said "Heck yes!" and then, "But only if you don't have any performance expectations." ... Read more »
Tagg Takes DC
Yes. Well. I suppose you are looking at the new and spiffy site and thinking, boy, those were some subtle changes. Well, as tends to happen with these things, there was a little glitch in the proceedings so now we are looking at a weekend changeover. No one said progress was easy, right? This is what we call "building suspense." That's OK. I have a great post for Monday anyway. So in the meantime, join me on part II of the BlogPaws recap, why don't you? There are always many fun adventures ... Read more »
