As you all know, BZTAT is busily painting as we speak in service to several animal related causes. The tie between art and charity is strong- both come from the heart, so that should be no surprise. Guest poster and animal artist Sue Steiner speaks to the bond she has with her beautiful horse Ricco: Ricco is my yearling. One of the great pleasures of the past year has been to watch this amazing creature grow and develop. I had to laugh the last couple days when something ... Read more »

The Tree of Life: memorializing a lost pet
Memorializing a pet is a regular topic of conversation here on the blog, and in this post, family therapist Laurel Lagoni from Vet Wisdom Cafe shares a great idea for one way to keep our memories of our loved pets alive: Planting a Tree In Memoriam "I'm confused about what to do now with my dog's ashes. He was cremated and I received his remains a couple of weeks ago. I don't really want to keep them, but I also don't want to scatter them around and then have nowhere that I can "visit" him. ... 5 Insider Tips for Picking Pet Insurance
People ask me about pet insurance all the time. And I honestly don't always know what to tell them. From my perspective, it's fantastic: I don't have to do anything, except maybe fill out a short form, and in return I see more pets getting the care they need. People who actually have pet insurance, however, tell different stories. Some companies rival human insurance companies when it comes to red tape navigation; others reimburse pennies on the dollar spent. Still others are actually very ... Read more »

We are not alone
Thank you for the kind words yesterday. I'm taking today to reflect and regroup, but fortunately I have a wonderful guest post from Dr. Sarah from Friends of Humane Society de Tijuana to share with you today. It is a beautiful reminder to honor all creatures great and small. See you tomorrow. As we traveled down into Tijuana two Sundays ago, I knew I had another long day in front of me. We were coming to see Sr. Juanito, a very humble man near the age of 90 years old who rescues street ... Read more »
Animals Have No Nationality
Today's guest post comes from my friend and colleague Dr. Sarah, whom I have known from blogging long before I knew her from her efforts with animal rescue. Today Sarah is talking a little more about a unique and amazing rescue I have featured in the past here on pawcurious, the Friends of Humane Society de Tijuana. With less resources and more challenges than most rescues stateside, this group of volunteers have accomplished SO much. And there is so much more to do. I hope you are as inspired ... Read more »

Bringing home baby: Tips on furkid/ human kid relations
Happy Monday! While Brody, Koa and I are enjoying the Pacific Northwest, I have a few more wonderful guest posts lined up for the week. To kick things off, we have the wonderful Sarah from Cole's First Blog with a topic that has been a popular request: Getting the pets ready for the arrival of a new baby! I will fully admit when people ask me for advice on this topic I draw a blank- I didn't do any prep ahead of time and dealt with the consequences of an attention-starved Golden who peed on ... Thunderphobia!
I live in Southern California. We don't have thunder. We have earthquakes. In fact, we just had one 5 minutes ago. It was a 5.9. I'm still shaking. My point is, while I can tell you all about how to handle earthquakes (freeze and pray), thunderstorm phobia is really not my area of expertise. Fortunately for all of you, as we stand on the cusp of thunder season (so I hear), I have the pleasure of having guest blogger and trainer extraordinaire Eric Goebelbecker from Dog Spelled Forward, one ...
