Koa the *Star*

December 29, 2010 by Dr. V

A couple of weeks ago, Kekoa and I were asked to go on the local news station to talk about the Nulo Campaign to Fight Pet Obesity and how owners can help their pets make a New Year's Resolution to take off a few pounds. They had us on the morning after Christmas, so instead of laying in a semi-gingerbread and eggnog coma on a pile of wrapping paper as I am wont to do on December 26th, I packed Koa up and headed down to the local news station at 8 am sharp. We got buzzed in by a ... Read more »

WE HAVE VIDEO!! Iron Chef Pawcurious is LIVE!

November 13, 2010 by Dr. V

We now interrupt our regularly scheduled blogging to bring you the long awaited infamous CAT LITTER EATING POST. I ate cat litter. I made up recipes. I filmed it on video since Ustream wouldn't work. In hi def (ugh) I had to edit it because YouTube won't load anything over 10 minutes. It still needs more editing, but that will take several days. I even added a jingle. A JINGLE! If that isn't worth a couple bucks donation I don't know what else to do. I am too old to go for ... Read more »

I am the change: BlogPaws West Part 2

September 15, 2010 by Dr. V

I just posted two really kind of depressing posts, didn't I? Well, how about we lighten it up a little with a continuing recap of the BlogPaws event. The mood brightened considerably after the morning keynote. After that experience, I slunk into the next session with notebook at the ready. First was "Building your Brand and Platform Through Blogging" with Michele Miller of WonderBranding and pet lifestyle expert Charlotte Reed. They were great. I took notes about funneling and branding to ... Read more »

Tales From the Vet Clinic: Fleased

August 27, 2010 by Dr. V

Thank you all for the lovely birthday wishes yesterday. It was a wonderful day despite dentist, doctor and 100 degree nasty weather. My husband brought home cupcakes, the kids had a great day at school and Brody found, then ate, a whole bag of goldfish crackers. Two out of three ain't bad. I guess he was mad he didn't get a cupcake. It's been a bad year for fleas, even worse than normal. With the long hot days of late summer dragging on with no signs of cooling off, they're not going away ... Read more »

Be the Change is BACK! And easier than ever!

July 13, 2010 by Dr. V

People who have been reading my blog for a while know that I am a big proponent of helping animals in whatever way you can. It's easy to be intimidated by big productions and think, "There's no way I'm going to organize a $200,000 fundraiser. All I have is $5/an old towel/5 minutes to spare." This spring, I was fortunate enough to meet some amazing people at BlogPaws- people who felt, as I did, that there is no bottom or top limit on what determines importance. Anything, and everything, ... Read more »

Product Review: Alopaw Hawaiian Dog Treats

July 12, 2010 by Dr. V

We recently received a bag of Alopaw Hawaiian Dog Treats for the pups. Founder Shannon created her vegan treats after learning her adorable black lab Kona was born with a liver shunt and would require a very specialized diet. So we receive a bag of treats from a dog named Kona, with a picture of a black lab on the front- is there any question who should get to do the product review? My husband and I were just discussing how Koa deserved to be featured a little more than she has ... Read more »

Happy Birthday Brody!!

May 26, 2010 by Dr. V

One year ago today, I was in an emergency room with my vomiting daughter fighting with an ER doc about the most appropriate course of action. It was a bad day. Several hours north of us, a little Golden retriever was giving birth to a litter of puppies: 8 robust golden beauties and one, slightly darker, rusty puffball. One year later, he is a 65 pound whirlwind of trouble, fur, love, and goofiness resting under my feet. He is a reminder of what is important, what is real, and what can be ... Read more »

Product Review: Biscuits by Lambchop

November 17, 2009 by Dr. V

One of my blogathon sponsors was Annette at Biscuits By Lambchop, who provided 5 prizes for donors. Their specialty is a treat that is gluten free, animal protein free, and low fat, low sodium, and low phosphorous- making them a good choice for dogs who are unable to eat many of the treats on the market. Along with my stack of prizes, she was kind enough to include samples for Brody. She told me I should try them too. I kind of raised my eyebrow at this- I mean, I'm kind of dog fooded out at ... This is pretty nerve-wracking

February 13, 2009 by Dr. V

On Sunday, I’m meeting up with Amazing Amber (my favorite tech in the world) and shooting the first videocasts for this blog. Depending on the weather and how well I have my act together (rather grim on both accounts) we are aiming to shoot 4-6 videocasts which will then be uploaded to iTunes. I have no idea how long the post-production will take; this is kind of a learning experience for all of us. I’m going to cover a few basic topics of interest to dog and cat owners, but ...
