One week in Orlando. Flew home to child with, I just learned today, strep throat. And we move on Friday. This is how I am feeling right now: And that includes all the hair and assorted detritus scattered about. ... Read more »
Wordless Wednesday
Get your puppy and kitten fix here. One day only.
Every little kid who wants to be a vet someday says it's because they love puppies and kittens and think we get to play with them all day. And then we smile, trying not to look too discouraging, as we encourage their dream while thinking of all the cancer euthanasias, anal sac abscesses, and "it-just-started-yesterday-I-swear" 10 centimeter pedunculated, bloody masses. Some people thrive on all that stuff. Me, I never got beyond the 10 year old version of being a vet. I like preventive care. ... Read more »
Wordless Wednesday: Aloha
Confession: I'm on vacation this week. A real, honest to goodness, pack up the family and go somewhere really fun vacation, which we haven't done in a while so was very needed. I thought I would be using this time to stir my creative juices and knock out the rest of the Mt. Meru posts, boom-boom-boom, but the only thing I can bring myself to stir is the ice in my mojito. Can you blame me? I do so love the beach. If you get up early, before the 5,000 other people on vacation here get down ... Read more »
Come, all ye sinners, and participate in the blog
Someone who shall remain unnamed stole a rather sizeable piece of chicken off someone's plate yesterday. By the time the transgression was discovered, the chicken was long gone and one food allergic cat was smacking his lips in a self-satisfied grin. For a bit, at least. Lest you wonder how rapidly the symptoms of a food allergy can come on when a pet ingests an offending allergen, I present to you Mr. MangeLegs: That silvery glimmer over his shoulders is reflected light, but that grey ... News that’s Fit To Click
Pardon me for my brevity today. I just went to a Katy Perry concert and it struck me both deaf and blind, mostly in a good way, but still. I'm trying out something new to share all these great stories I find over the course of the week: It's the weekly roundup! The FDA approves a drug for steroid-responsive incontinence in dogs. [PetMD] Old dog vestibular disease: a common but mysterious problem. [PetConnection] Dogs helping victims of abuse get through their trial testimony. ... Read more »

Wordy Wednesday- oops
I had about 4 hours to kill at the Dayton airport yesterday, which I had planned to spend writing a post for today. Unfortunately about 2 seconds after the shuttle dropped us off I realized that in my reverie I left my laptop on the bus. Then Chad, one of the fantastic Paine PR team members, realized his Blackberry was also on the shuttle. Susi, my fellow blogger over at KnobNotes who did not leave anything on the shuttle, was kind enough to capture this dramatic footage of us bemoaning our ... Read more »

Wordy Wednesday: VIT (Very Important Tigger)
I decided to forego the standard title and just concede that I can't do a wordless post. There's just too much to explain, always. In this case, this is what happens when you have a punch-drunk team of veterinary volunteers under the influence of malarone, equatorial heat, and a little too much free time while waiting for the real surgeries to get checked in. Welsh volunteers Luke Marriot and Katherine Mock, two intrepid and extremely thoughtful explorers who stopped in to the Amazon Cares ... Read more »
Wordless Wednesday: Housemates
Well, I think I've established that I am incapable of doing a Wordless Wednesday without words. Can I just call it Wordy Wednesday and be done with it? Our home is at an age where everything is falling apart at regular intervals. Some pipe or another bursts in a 12 month cycle. Last year's was one in the slab. This year, the burst pipe was in a less critical area but the paint is looking tatty aand in need of some touchups. While we're at it, we decided to replace the nasty 80's teal trim ... Read more »
