Rescued from our pool filter basket, where he was making a mighty attempt to swim out. Word on the street is that he is a San Bernadino ring-necked snake. There's not much a 6 inch non venomous snake can do to look menacing, but he stuck his tongue out and tried. Finding ourselves properly chastened, he was returned to the terra firma in the backyard. I have been cooking and baking up a storm this Labor Day weekend. And why not? I got a huge box of produce from my CSA, I had some experiments to conduct with beets (the jury's still out on that one) and some healthy recipes I wanted to test on both kids and pups. I had a big pile of carrots to work with as well, and despite the blistering heat I had a bee in my bonnet to make carrot soup. Don't ask me why. It just sounded good. It's Brody's First Birthday Week! I have some really cool stuff in store for you guys. Stay tuned! This was a little monkey we met at a sanctuary on a trip to Costa Rica back in 2008. By 'sanctuary', I mean 'two expats from the Bay Area who decided to call themselves a sanctuary so they could charge tourists to come to their house and pet monkeys.' I gave them some advice on abscess treatment and my e-mail address, which they never used.
