Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels

September 23, 2010 by Dr. V

Well, that’s what we tell ourselves anyway. I hope Koa agrees. She has lost one more pound this week, putting her at 77 pounds.

She ate some lettuce yesterday, leftover from my lunch salad. It was a piece of arugula with a light balsamic vinaigrette. I was amazed she actually swallowed it- Brody is a champion vegetable spitter outter. I wouldn’t say she was exceptionally enthused about it, but beggars can’t be choosers.

She even got a little treat this weekend- I made some dog biscuits for an upcoming Baking with Brody post and I felt terribly guilty after he got to eat three in the process of taking the pictures, so she got one too. Dogs don’t seem to be wracked with guilt over diet cheats the way we are. She ate it with no misgivings whatsoever.

Koa also got featured in a LiveScience article this week! Now that I’ve publicly proclaimed her dieting all over the internet, I have no choice but to ensure its success, right? I could not bear the humiliation of being back in a year with a 90 pound lab, saying, “Oops.”

We’ve had good luck feed our dog canned pumpkin. Almost no calories, healthy, great filler. Our Shar-Pei lost 5 lbs with it.

Woohoo go Koa! You’re doing such an excellent job with her. I love how animals just dont care that they are fat – I wish it was that easy for humans!

I love that saying. I think I’m going to post it on my fridge šŸ™‚

It’s actually a saying strongly associated with pro-ana groups. šŸ™ There was recently quite a bit of controversy over a t-shirt in some fashion line that had this slogan; it was pulled for its “glorification” of eating disorders.

I don’t want you to think that I’m all judgey for it being used (I’m not! I love this blog! It’s my first stop every morning! ^_^), but I wasn’t sure if you knew the connotations.

It’s a slogan that many Weight Watchers meetings have been using for YEARS too, so it also has positive associations. šŸ™‚

Oh yikes! I was thinking of it from the WW quotes. I definitely don’t want to promote eating disorders for humans or animals.

Good job, Dr V and congrats to one less pound, Koa! Disco had a no weight lost week and I am away at a cat show this weekend and so I am sure he put on a little while I was away even though my petsitter was going to follow the diet plan…I will post on his week when I get back home…
