Giveaway: Calming Collars

November 13, 2010 by Dr. V

From random.org, comment number 7 wins! Don’t worry, there is one more chance to win coming up later!!

Deb Mendez has been a supporter since the early days of the blog. Her all natural calming collar was clicked on Koa for the first 3 months she lived with us. Hers was a lower level anxiety, fortunately, and when she was wearing the collar at work she would quietly slip under a desk and snooze.

bcollar

Anxiety is a big problem in dogs, and like many things, there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Thundershirts, behavior modification exercises, and medications are also different ways people approach this issue. The more severe the anxiety, the more stuff you have to try.

Would you like to try one? (She also has motion sickness and cooling collars.) Leave a comment below saying what you would like to try and who it is for.

Update from Deb: I’ll make a $5 donation to “the puppy for Bradyn” for each Calming Collar purchase this month that mentions Dr. V or Pawcurious or even Blogathon2010 (there is a “how we heard about you” box in checkout).

I would love to try this with my Italian Greyhound George 🙂

I would love one! My Molly (a Decker Rat Terrier) is rather high strung and very anxious – we credit it to her “terrific” previous owners who locked her in a bathroom for months at a time because she jumped up on them.

Enjoying your Blog, Dr.V. I’m a Vet Tech and I appreciate your honesty and calm understanding that you show in your writing.

    Thanks!

I would love to have one for Davinia to lower her anxiety right before we go out for a walk. She gets so overstimulated she barks and barks and the only way to get her attention is to pick her up. I think this would also be great for her when she goes to the vet or out somewhere she gets very nervous when it is a small area with lots of dogs.

My dog Kian gets very anxious when going to the vet or groomer. Recently the groomer recommended sedating him for grooming. I won’t medicate him, and have thought about trying something like the calming collar. Kian would be a very happy dog if he won a calming collar!

My dog Shiva has mild separation anxiety. With a lot of work she is doing a lot better. But, she does still have problems when people knock on the door. We don’t have a lot of guests, but the few people that do come by, like on Halloween, can cause her a great deal of stress. I’d love to try something like the calming collar as I have heard interesting things about them. At this point, I’ll try anything!

Scooby would probably benefit. His thunderstorm anxiety has gotten better as he’s gotten older, but the thunder still makes him anxious from time to time.

I would love to try one on Akira. She is TERRIFIED of thunderstorms and things that sound like thunder, like fireworks and such.

I would like to try this on Jasmine who really doesn’t like rainstorms, much less thunderstorms.

I’ve been waiting Astrea’s entire life to find this. My little barker could totally use one of these to calm herself… Might have to look into a hyperactivity one for Jameson too… Guess what the pups are getting for Christmas! haha

I didn’t even know these existed in this form (we’ve done the thundershirt thing, along with Bach essences, reiki, professional training, etc.). “We” would love to try the calming collar – my foster Dolly was found on the streets of Chicago, and after living in a shelter’s glass cage in their infirmary (they dx’d her w/ cancer) for 10 MONTHS came to live with me. 1st day she ate the bottm crate tray and undid the locks on it. ;( She is on Clomicalm, must be crated in the car (crate no longer covered tho, whew!), and cannot be left home alone w/out the windows being blocked out.

She has made immense, continuous improvements in the past 9 months (aka she doesn’t try to chase cars usually) but has a long, long way to go.

Any helpful advice you may have Dr. V. is always welcome.

Wonder if this would help Rudy during thunderstorms and when fireworks are going off?? Would love to be able to give it a try!

I would love to try this for Sophie (Lab mix). She has anxiety about everything. We are working very hard to reward relaxing behaviors and I think this might help her relax a little more. Thanks

I think this could benefit Puppy Lucky! My poor sweet Puppy Lucky (who is 3 1/2, btw) is such a nervous dog, about everything. I would love to find something that could help control some of the anxiety/nervousness that he has.

That is really cool! How do they work, what about the collar causes the dog to lose some of their anxiety?

We would love to try for our son Bear, he is a Golden Retriever. He has a good bit of anxiety and it is hard to see him all agitated, because I know how it is to be anxious. He gets upset when we leave or even when my son leaves. He is constantly getting upset, worried (a constant worrier) and he is like of on the hyper side – although I associate it with anxiety. He is always jumping on people trying to pull them where he wants (I know it sounds like behaviour, but he just wants to be center of attention). He comes between my husband and I when we are cuddling – he thinks my husband is hurting me when we hug or cuddle. Bear is always checking on us in the middle of the night. I believe he stays up worrying about us – or me. I am ill and have a few problems with my brain, so Idk if he senses it or what, but we awaken to him sitting up staring at us several times during the night. Always looks worried. He just can’t sit still. I worry about him. I love that little guy! I don’t know what I would do without him.

I would love to try this on my 100 lb shep mix, Brooklyn. She has fear aggression, and is just fearful in general. If we’re on a walk and a bag blows by, she tries to hide behind me. In the house, all I have to do is open the drawer where the pots and pans are and she’s shaking !!! Afraid of most sudden noises, and I’d love for her to try this ! Thank you !

I will give it to my cat Midnight. There’s some construction going on in our house right now and he’s always a nervous wreck because of the strangers going in and out of the house 🙁

I would like to try one on Mack, my special Border Collie. The other night, during a minor storm, he came out of his hidey hole(the closet) and got between the bed and the wall. We have to move the bed to get him out.
If it works for Mackie, I’d suggest it to clients at my office; I’m always looking for ways other than drugs to help these dogs! I keep a T-shirt at work, to show clients how to put it on their dog.
    Thanks!

I would love to try the Calm Me Down collar for Buddy. He really gets himself worked up in certain social situations; I’d be curious to see if this would help.

My rescue dog Harry is so anxious in the car. He starts with a whine that turns into a loud shrill bark. He makes everyone upset including me which makes it unpleasant to have him in the car. I have tried many things and will keep trying but would be over joyed if this might be the answer to a calm car ride. Would love to give it a shot.

Zoom is a fabulous border collie/fox terrier. My first dog who is “all mine”. I didn’t know that thing about how easy it is to under socialize a border collie. He’s fabulous with other dogs, but new situations and new people sketch him out. I’d like to be able to take a long road trip without having to pack the ACE. Maybe this would help?

I would love to try the calm me down for my dog Sadie. She is a rescue and is so stressed when we go to the vet. She shakes and her heartrate goes way up while we’re there. It would be nice to use something like this for her.

The dog who is sitting shaking on my lap because my rabbit stamped her feet would love to try the Calming Collar. Poor Havoc finds the noise from the stamping terrifying.

    Good luck with the Blogathon!

My chocolate lab Layla has some separation anxiety problems. I can’t go to the mailbox or take out the trash without her barking and jumping against the glass door. I have to crate her during the day or else my house would be trashed (read: broken glass, powdered laundry detergent, toilet cleaning products, toilet paper, DVD remnants, napkins, tennis ball shreds, etc – all in one day!)

I would love to try one of these calming collars for my 2 year old dachshund! He barks at EVERYTHING, from leaves fall from the trees, to the mailman, to my neighbor pulling in the driveway. Charlie always has his guard up and I’d love for him to be able to relax!
