Today I had to take the kids for a haircut, and in the way kids do, the stylist at Fantastic Sam’s got to know everything there is to know about their lives.
“Who’s Brody?” she asked my son.
“My dog,” he replied. “He’s a Golden Retriever.”
“Oh, you have a dog,” she said agreeably. “How cool.”
“I have two dogs,” he corrected her. “Brody and Licorice.”
That one was new to me too, so I leaned in closer.
“Licorice?” she asked. “What kind of dog is that?”
“She’s a labrador,” he replied. “She’s Koa, actually, but I call her Licorice.”
“Ah,” the sylist said. “What color licorice?”
“Huh?” asked my son.
“Is she red licorice or black licorice?”
“The gross kind,” I offered.
My son looked bemused. “Not licorice like candy. Lickerish. She licks ALL THE TIME.”
Lickerish has been with us for one year now, if you can believe it. I can hardly believe it myself. Happy One Year in your Forever Home, sweet Koa!
I would like to state for the record that you have been so, so very much less work than Brody. Go older dog rescue! 😀
In honor of the adoptiversary, I am making Koa a cupcake (as opposed to an entire cake- gotta preserve that svelte new form) and I also penned her a Lickerish Limerick.
There was an old dog big and black,
Whose adopters kept giving her back
Why they did I can’t see
But they saved her for me
Now an integral part of the pack!
Yeah for Koa! Happy Adopta-versary.
Thank you Deb! 🙂
The dearest, sweetest dog we ever had was a 6 month old Golden Retriever puppy we chose NOT to get the first time around. Through a short series of very sad incidents, she became our Brea and blessed our home for 17 years. Sometimes God knows what he’s doing – in Koa’s case, he gave her heaven and angels early. I, too, have come to love your Lickerish Dog – please give her an extra hug for me today!
I will do! And how lucky Brea was to have found you as well. 😀
Yay!
My sentiments exactly!
Happy Adoptaversary to you Koa. It is wonderful when people adopt the older doggys. They love you so much for it.
I really think they know.
Happy Gotcha Day to Koa Lickerish and her family!
Oooh, I like gotcha day! I’ll have to start using that!
Happy Koa Day!!!!
Thank you! It’s been a great year!
Yay Koa! OMG the “lickerish” comment made me full on laugh out loud. From the mouths of babes…
He could just as easily have named her Mamma Gass so I should be grateful!
Sweetest face evar! Happy Koa Day!
Thank you! She is a true angel pup.
I love that! Lickerish is so funny!! When I was a kid we had friends who named their dog, Lucy. But come to find out they spelled it Loosey. She got out and ran loose ALL the time. Fun 🙂
I love that! Loosey – lol!
Happy adoptaversary, Koa! My Wrigley’s was yesterday, and it’s so hard to believe that he’s been an entire year, but it’s also hard to believe that he hasn’t been here forever. Thank you, Florida Little Dog Rescue, for a wonderful doofus dog!
And Lickerish is a great name!
Oh, yaay for Wrigley! Are you going to send me a picture for my Adoption Celebration next week?
Love Lickerish — that is hilarious! Happy adoptiversary to all of you! Koa, you couldn’t have ended up in a better place!
I feel very lucky to have gotten her!
Wow!! A whole year… :o) Got tears in my eyes now…sniff, sniff. Happy B-day sweet Koa!
I know, right? How did that happen?
Yay Koa! You are my favorite internet dog! 🙂
I’ll cover brody’s eyes! 😀
Is it just me, or does she look less grey than she used to? You’ve given her such a happy, healthy life. I’m so glad you rescued her.
Apparently I’m smoking crack again as I just realized the above picture is from when you first got her. ;-P
Still, I feel as though she has looked increasingly younger in the pics you’ve posted of her over the course of the year.
bwahahaahhaaaaaa I’m just lazy today.
Happy Anniversary beautiful Kekoa. Sending lots of hugs and kisses your way
And as you know, plenty of kisses right back atcha!
Cute poem. I bet she’s glad they saved her for you! Happy adoptiversary!
Thank you Peggy!
Happy day, Koa (aka Licorice). Just for the record, I like black licorice. I’m so happy Koa found the best forever home ever!
OK good, now I know who to give all the black jellybeans to. 😀
Happy Adopt-aversary to you and your family Koa!
Love the limerick!
Thank you!
i know a limerick would be more fitting, but i thought i’d mix things up with a haiku.
koa once alone
beautiful, she smiles proudly
surrounded by love
Oh, that is beautiful. Thank you! 😀
