It’s cold. It’s dark. And you need something to read to get your mind off the apocalypse.
How about Scent of the Missing? Here’s the description:
In the wake of the Oklahoma City bombing, Susannah Charleson clipped a photo from the newspaper of an exhausted canine handler, face buried in the fur of his search-and-rescue dog. A dog lover and pilot with search experience herself, Susannah was so moved by the image that she decided to volunteer with a local canine team and soon discovered firsthand the long hours, nonexistent pay, and often heart-wrenching results they face. Once she qualified to train a dog of her own, she adopted Puzzle, a strong, bright Golden Retriever puppy who exhibited unique aptitudes as a working dog but who was less interested in the role of compliant house pet. Scent of the Missing is the story of Susannah and Puzzle’s adventures as they search for the missing—a lost teen, an Alzheimer’s patient wandering in the cold, signs of the crew amid the debris of the space shuttle Columbia disaster—and unravel the mystery of the bond between humans and dogs.
I have three copies to give away for this hour’s post. To enter, comment below with your favorite thing to do at two in the morning, besides sleep, that is.
I like to snuggle with one of my cats if I can’t sleep or curling up with a book and a cat.
Reading. Usually it’s books. Tonight it’s blogs. lol
Any time I’m awake and the lil hound girl is sleeping I like to just watch her being content and with calm mind. Well, either that or ironing for work for the next day.
I clean. Somehow it’s the only time I have the motivation to do deep cleanings 🙂
I watch old TV shows – the best 🙂
Eat at IHOP!
Reading Scent of the Missing would certainly take my mind off the apocalypse. That books is fantastic! It made me wish I could do be part of a search and rescue team.
Snuggle on the couch with the doggies and read.
Continue reading the book that I can’t get off my mind, watch TV shows online, love on my furkids.

If I am up that late, I’m reading a book or websurfing, usually with a warm dog sleeping on my feet.
I would either be reading a good book or doing some research online while snuggling with my fuzzy puppy. Nothing beats the comfort a dog gives just by being near. 🙂
Listen to classical music.
Reading. And once a year, following some crazy vet from California as she does a blogathon…
Reading usually, but sometimes working (those are always some good emails) and occasionally folding laundry.
I watch really bad infomercials! I love them. They are my guilty pleasure.
