I had a moment. I admit it. A moment of just sheer utter sad, thinking on the amount of death and loss and unpleasantness that’s been floating about lately.
I thought of my daughter’s poetry book, which she started after Kekoa died to work through her grief. Just as she was finishing up with it, now she writes about Apollo.
I thought about the little shadow in the background that used to flit about.
I thought about the happiness certain things bring me and the kids.
I thought about the things that my life center around, my life’s work, and before you knew it I had driven somewhere I wasn’t planning on going, and walked somewhere I wasn’t planning on walking, and signed something I wasn’t planning on signing.
I thought I wouldn’t do this, but I did.
This is Penelope. She is outgoing and awesome and I love her very much already.
Ā I thought that might happen.

She’s beautiful! I’ve done the same thing. Had to put 2 of my dogs to sleep within a week. Found myself at the shelter and adopted my jack russell terrier, Ricochet.
Sometimes there is nothing like a new furry family member to remind ourselves of why we put our hearts through so much pain and that it’s worth it.

she is beautiful and you can tell she is already loved. After we lost Magoo my heart was so broken i didn’t think I would want another little boy. But after about a month i began to ache for a furry boy. So i looked around and two months less a day after we said good bye to Magoo we said hello to Barrington. I call him my happy cat and he knows it. It hard to believe that Magoo has been gone for one year this Monday. I cant lie, I am dreading this Monday but I am so thanksful for Barrington.

She needed a home. She needed your family. I’m am quite sure she is Apollo approved. Congratulations on Penelope! Needs met.

This made me smile, I’m so sorry for your recent loss. However, if there is one thing that can raise us up out of the grief we suffer when our pets leave us behind, it is the innocence and love of a new companion.
And how appropriate during Adopt a pet month!

Sometimes you just feel it when the time is right. So sorry about Apollo, but so happy for you and Penelope.

Pets have a way of getting into our hearts before we know it. So sorry for the losses. Wishing you much happiness with Penelope. She’s adorable.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! Welcome Penelope! You have hit the jackpot š Dr. V, when I adopted my two current kitties, I didn’t expect to do it either. But, I needed to share all the love I still had/have in my heart, and they needed homes…so it’s all good.

Congratulations! I sure look forward to reading about some of her adventures!

When you have lived with such an awesome cat, it’s hard to think about getting another one. It took me 3 months after Katana died before I started thinking about it. I spoke to a rescue, asking about cats used to dogs, preferably 2 together. I found out about 2 different sets of littermates I could meet, and they were local. Still I was still resisting in my heart. But then I had a dream. In my dream I was in bed asleep, and Katana jumped on the bed and woke me up. Katana then walked to the end of the bed, where there was an orange tiger striped kitty sleeping curled up. Katana looked at me, and left. I felt she was telling me it was time to bring cats back into our lives. I went to look at 2 feral brothers, in foster since they were 9 weeks old. They were one year old, and used to a bouncy lab trying to play with them. Both are partially blind from eye infections, one was fluffy and I didn’t want fluffy. But when I met them, one was the orange tabby from my dream.
So now we have them both (how could you separate brothers that have been together for a year?). They are very unique in personality. They go outside when the dogs do (they both love my mellow Wolfhounds), get along great with everyone and just like my dream, Pippin sleeps at the end of our bed every night.
Always follow your heart, but sometimes the heart needs a nudge from a soft paw.
Tabitha W says
Its funny you mention your dream because after we said good bye to Magoo, a few weeks later I also had a dream. I was outside my house on the side walk and Magoo was in front on me walking ahead. I kept calling him to stop, to wait but we kept walking. He eventually sat dont in front of this old maple tree only a few houses away and beside him was another cat. A small boy Burmese. I was shocked to see a Burmese cat outside all alone. I picked him up and he was so friendly and sweet. When I put the other cat down, Magoo was gone so I started to walk back to my house where the other cat followed me home. After that dream I knew it was time.

To me, you honor the love you had for your lost ones by sharing that love with another. You never forget, a piece of your heart will always belong to them. But one thing I find is true- your heart and love is a never ending supply.

Oh, my Michelle!!!
This is so perfect. For me, at least, but I suspect for many.
My dear Bob – 16 year old marmalade Garfield look-alike, died in August. An orange and white 12 week old long haired, ear-tufted Auggie joined Bear, my Karelian Bear Dog and I in late September.
But that is just the latest in loss and new.
As you so eloquently said: “love is a never ending supply” and there will always be animals that need love and a loving forever home.
Loving the new honors the lost.
And I call on the lost to send info to the new, i.e. Bob!!! – please tell Auggie how to be family with Bear!

When I lose a pet, I am not sure how long it will take me to bring another heart into my home. I bet it will be sooner than I thing too though. I am glad you had space in your heart to help out another kitty. I am sure she will be loved just as much.
catspal says
Awesome! I knew you were an amazing woman and now you just proved it!!
Abby's Mom says
She’s darling. Loving a wonderful cat really makes you want to love another. When my last cat, Nala, passed away she left such a void in the house until Abby came into my life. They are such different cats, I could never say Abby was a replacement. Nala taught me just how much I need a cat in my life and made it that much easier to open my heart to another.

Penelope looks like such a character! Greetings from my own cat Penny š When my greyhound died in a very freak accident last May, I knew it would be a while before I was ready to adopt again, though I missed having a dog around the house so much. Since then, I’ve been fostering a series of greyhounds for a rescue group and with my 8th foster dog I felt a special connection so he’s staying for good! Fostering is an excellent way to help out animals in need when you don’t feel emotionally ready to commit to a new pet yet and the right one will usually come along when you need them to š
