Brody
We’re ready- are you?
Brody heard me talking about "Thanksgiving GI upsets" in one breath and "early starts" in another, so he decided to go ahead a day early and greet me with a wee bit of explosive diarrhea of indeterminate origin this morning. And this without a single bite of turkey skin or cheese. Keep the bird up high, y'all. And have a great day! ... Read more »

Product Review: Biscuits by Lambchop
One of my blogathon sponsors was Annette at Biscuits By Lambchop, who provided 5 prizes for donors. Their specialty is a treat that is gluten free, animal protein free, and low fat, low sodium, and low phosphorous- making them a good choice for dogs who are unable to eat many of the treats on the market. Along with my stack of prizes, she was kind enough to include samples for Brody. She told me I should try them too. I kind of raised my eyebrow at this- I mean, I'm kind of dog fooded out at ... Hour 24: SuperBrode is my hero
We are all inspired by our pets- to be kind, to give a little more than we take, to play hard and snuggle a ton and enjoy every little moment in life. They encourage us to connect with one another. And they push us to do a little more. Last week, an hour before closing, a family came in with a 4 pound, 10 week old poodle puppy. She was vomiting, had diarrhea, and no history of vaccinations. They had just enough money to confirm the diagnosis of parvo. Her white blood cell count was 1, meaning ... Read more »
Hour 21: Now I’m feeling it
Oh man, doesn't Mile 21 correlate with hitting the wall when you run a marathon? That is about where I am now. My husband took the kids out to lunch to get them out of my hair, and it's strangely silent in the house. The dishes are piled up, the china with the dog food waiting patiently in the sink to be cleaned. In just a bit. Apollo and Brody are keeping me company, like they always do. Apollo looks the same as he did 9 years ago. He is aging quite gracefully. When I adopted him, he was ... Read more »

And to those who have already, thank you so much! This is already way beyond my expectations!!!!!!) Meet Brody, mild-mannered Goldenbeast by day. Until he sees the beast-signal up in the sky! The Evil Boy Blunder has chucked a defenseless little puppy into the lake! He's in desperate ... Read more »
It’s payback time…
Having suffered the humiliation of being stuffed into a fleece suit for the entertainment of the masses, Brody's first thought was apparently, "Wild Thing? Seriously? You have NO IDEA, lady. I'll show you wild thing." The end of daylight savings has its disadvantages. Namely, when a dog goes outside for his evening ablutions, one can no longer observe his activities. Generally speaking our yard is pretty safe. He can't squeeze between the bars on the fence, the plants are dog-safe, and the ... Read more »
CSI: San Diego
Officer, we've had reports of a serious crime at the home of Dr V. while she was out on vacation. Our forensics expert is examining the victim, one wooden toybox. It's gruesome. I've seen a lot in my years, but this one still unnerved me. How could anyone do this to a poor defenseless box? Make sure the kiddos aren't looking over your shoulder. Dear God! Can someone cover this with a sheet? We've nabbed the perp, a cocky little guy who seems to think we got nothin' on him. ... Read more »
When mom’s away…
I've been on vacation this week. A much needed, long awaited break from the grindstone of work. I had fully intended on having a week's worth of posts in the queue, but I only got as far as two before I realized we were leaving in 12 hours and I hadn't packed a single thing. So I've been trying to get some stuff done at night on a less than reliable wifi network, rushing such things as picking images for posts- which may or may not get you in trouble when you accompany a post about an ... Where the wild things are
Brody must be going through a growth spurt. He's always liked food, but this past week he eyes it with a mania reserved for teenage boys eyeing the paper-wrapped magazines at the convenience store. When he sees me with the bowl, he starts to wag his tail, then his tail starts to wag him, then he starts jumping and spinning and salivating all over the floor. Only when he collapses in a hypoglycemic pile on the floor do I place the bowl next to him, where the food is inhaled in under 10 ... Read more »
I’m sure the neighbors love me
The puppy got in trouble chasing Cat around the house. so off we went to take a walk to let the kitty grouse. With collar on and leash attached full time for him to drag With lesson learned I set aside my stylish new poop bag. We stole a drink-or two- or three- from sprinklers on the corner; A busybody lady glared at me but we ignored her. And for the coup de grace we stopped at Old Man Johnson's yard; His pride and joy and us'lly manned with full time armored ... Read more »

We first spot the notoriously elusive beast at the water hole. We sneak in for a better look, trying our best to be quiet. But our paltry skills are no match for the mighty beast's superior hearing! He licks his chops in anticipation! And he springs into attack mode! Oh no! Tell the ... Read more »
Family ties
Brody is not Emmett, nor should he be. There is a lot I have yet to learn about Brody: his personality, his likes and dislikes and quirks. I am excited for that period of discovery. I have been blessed with such vivacious pets in my life, from crotchety Taffy to daft Nuke, mild Mu and the inimitable Emmett. I can't wait to find out who Brody will be. I've already found that he, unlike my other dogs to date, has begun bonding immediately with people other than myself in the family. That is great. ... Read more »

I don’t need no stinkin savings account
Brody arrived at my house with nothing but his vaccine record, a generic collar, and the fur on his back. When I adopted Emmett and Mulan, there wasn't a whole lot by way of internet shopping available- at least not to the extent there is now. While there are certainly myriad options to be found at the local stores, the stuff available if you do a little searching online is so very much cooler. My Brody's wishlist is growing day by day. This dog is going to be spoiled. 1. What dog would ... Read more »
